An Ultra-Flexible Local Workforce
Millions of potential workers in the UK can only be available for work around other commitments in their life. Many employers would like access to a pool of top-up worker - possibly already inducted - who could be hired by the hour, maybe at very short notice.

Creating a market for 'spare hours' has been the focus of the government funded Slivers-of-Time organisation. Such a market must be immediate, safe, enticing and completely cost effective. It requires technology way beyond job boards, auction sites or other existing online mechanisms. Using technology unique in the world, a Slivers-of-Time marketplace is now being launched in Cambridgeshire by Anglia Ruskin University, supported by six local employers.

As an employer you will have direct access to the system and manage your own temporary staffing requirements. Enter general information about the position needing to be filled, such as type of work, location, date and times. Immediately you will be given a list of everyone locally who's ready to do your booking, ranked by reliability and hourly rate. Simply, select the worker you want and they are sent a text message with the information and they then confirm their acceptance.

How can Slivers of Time help an employer?

  • Peak periods: If your business experiences changes in the levels of demand, this may affect the service levels provided during these times and/or put increased strains on other staff. Slivers-of-Time workers allow you to increase staffing precisely in line with need.

  • Projects: If you have a specific body of work coming up, you may need extra workers who can then be booked hour-by-hour as things progress.

  • Your own pool: Employers can have pools of Slivers-of-Time workers inducted in their own processes who can then be booked on an as and when needed basis.

  • Cost effective: you simply pay for the hours they are hired, no minimum booking lengths.

The market is managed by Anglia Ruskin's owned in-house recruitment agency - the Employment Bureau, who will be responsible for ensuring that all legal and payroll requirements are adhered to.
