The Learning and Skills Sector, established in 2004, provides a forum for members whose businesses are linked to learning and the development of people of all ages. It also provides a market place to promote the members' businesses to the wider community and to raise and respond to issues which relate to all Chamber Members in the context of personal education, training and development. It therefore seeks to be the interface between education and training providers and employers.
During this time it has kept members up to date with the changes to the qualifications system, how businesses can become involved, and new schemes and funding streams. It also has regular features in Your Network (also found in the news area of this section), to ease confusion of where to go or who to contact about training and development of employees an information sheet has been produced.
Employer engagement with the education sector is to be a major factor especially with the introduction of the Diploma qualifications rolling out in Cambridgeshire Schools during the next couple of years. The Diplomas will provide a better understanding of the industry so youngsters are better qualified for the work.
This Sector has its own committee which is chaired by Lis Kuschel, Orton Longueville School and vice-chair is Alan Stevens of Sawtry Community College. Regular committee meetings are held which includes representation from the complete education and learning mix - diploma, apprenticeships, 14-19 agenda, and adult education. However it is lacking representation from employers. If you have a real interest in the learning and development of your employees we would welcome your contribution to the committee. Interested? Please contact Helen Bosett, Sector Co-ordinator on 01733 370809 for further details.
