Planning for a low carbon, resilient energy future for Cambridgeshire
June 6, 2025

The Cambridgeshire local authorities are working together to create a Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) for our County. It will set out a route map for ensuring a secure, affordable and resilient energy supply into the future, and, how it can be delivered in the lowest carbon way.
Energy infrastructure includes the networks of cables, pylons and transformers that move electricity around from where it is generated to where it is used. Investment in this infrastructure is vital to ensure Cambridgeshire businesses, communities and organisations can grow and reach their net zero ambitions. Everything from expanding or upgrading your offices through to installing solar panels or EV chargepoints might impact energy infrastructure; and where the infrastructure is not available, costly and time-consuming delays can be experienced.
The LAEP will be used to ensure Cambridgeshire has a voice in influencing energy infrastructure investment, so we get the investment we want in the places we want see it. It will help pinpoint the most effective energy solutions tailored to specific areas, considering local challenges and opportunities, and build a resilient energy future for our County.
Your Input is Crucial
To make our LAEP as accurate and influential as possible, we need your help. If you are a business, organisation or a community group operating locally, we invite you to share your plans for growth, development, installing renewable energy generation, reducing energy consumption, or transitioning to low-carbon transport or heating systems. By participating, you can help shape the future of energy in Cambridgeshire and influence investment in cleaner, more efficient energy solutions that benefit all.
Your involvement will contribute to an approach that not only drives environmental sustainability but also supports local jobs, reduces operational costs, and fosters a greener, more resilient economy for the county.
Get Involved Today
You can participate in the LAEP process by responding to our survey by 14 July 2025. The survey should take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete, and your input is highly valuable in shaping the LAEP. Your insights into energy demand and future plans are essential to make the LAEP accurate and influential. Follow this link to complete the survey.
