In this practical session, Steven J Wakefield, founder of Growth Partners for Business Ltd and author of Using AI in Business, will explain how SME leaders can move from informal experimentation to a more strategic, coordinated and responsible approach.
Drawing on UK research, his work with business leaders and findings from more than 180 AI readiness assessments, Steve will explore why AI adoption depends less on chasing the latest technology and more on leadership clarity, organisational readiness, employee involvement and proportionate governance.
You will learn how to:
- identify worthwhile business problems before selecting an AI solution;
- distinguish individual AI use from organisational adoption;
- choose a manageable project with a clear outcome;
- establish boundaries around tools, data, checking and accountability; and
- measure impact before deciding whether to stop, adapt or scale.
Steve will also give a live demonstration of an AI Receptionist that has been built for Growth Partners. This will show how AI can move beyond generating text in ChatGPT to handling a real business process: answering telephone enquiries, capturing information, responding and supporting follow-up.
The session is designed for business owners and leaders who want a practical starting point for using AI with purpose, confidence and control.
