End of a busy year

Friday 8 January 2016

The Business Women’s Sector has had a very productive year. Led by Sara Collins, of Harnessing Creativity, here is a round-up of what they have been up to.

- One of 12 Chambers invited by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) to take part in a debate. The feedback has been used in discussions with the Minister for childcare, informed the business education survey and enabled the BCC to inform government about the issues faced by SME`s in regard to diversity.

- With Destination Digital and the Communications Sector we delivered Social Media workshop for Women in Fenland.

- A summer social networking event in the beautiful gardens at the Peterborough Cathedral. Some were brave enough to trek up the Cathedral Towers and take in the panoramic view of the city.

- Storm in a Teacup events encourages members to connect and share experiences and ideas out of their own working environment. More of these are being planned for 2016.

- Women in Management workshops continued. Packed with superb content and presented with the utmost professionalism by our presenters Caroline Robinson, Linda Hayman and Pauline Heron these sessions have been extremely well received. Plans to roll them out in 2016 to a mixed audience so look out for the details!

- Sara was interviewed on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire promoting the Sector and the work we are doing.

- More recently and into 2016 we are piloting a project with St Peters School – Project Inspire. The project is aimed to raise aspirations and awareness to young girls of none traditional gender roles in STEM.

- And finally, the year would not have ended the same without our annual Christmas Lunch.

The sector looks forward to engaging with new people and seeing the return of familiar faces during 2016. Look out for our events by email, website and CONNECTED.

If you would like to be more actively involved and join the Business Women’s Sector committee we would love to hear from you. New ideas of what we could be doing are also welcomed. Get in touch with Helen Bosett, Sector Co-ordinator, h.bosett@cambscci.co.uk
