Ely economy set to benefit from free business growth event

Friday 6 May 2016

Businesses in Ely will receive expert advice on how they should be looking to grow over the next 12 months at a special event being held as part of Ely Cathedral’s Celebration of Business.

The free, interactive workshop, organised by Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce, will connect business leaders with the local initiatives available to help plan for growth. The event is sponsored by the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership, Cambridgeshire County Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council and West Suffolk College.

It will showcase how local campaigns such as Signpost2Grow are already having a positive impact on the wider business community and share East Cambridgeshire District Council’s ambitions for the local economy. Two local businesses, Whizzle and Improve Business Performance, will also share their own successful growth stories and explain how they achieved sustainable business growth by diversifying and reaching new markets overseas. Participants will also be encouraged to network and create new business opportunities of their own over a buffet lunch in The Lady Chapel.

Richard Grey, Managing Director of Greys of Ely, attended a previous event in the series and said:
“I’d recommend this lively event to any business that has plans to grow. It’s invigorating to hear about business success stories and to find out what help is available to support business growth.”

Neil Darwin, Chief Executive of Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough LEP, added:
“Supporting the growth of our local businesses is an important part of the work we do here at the LEP. We understand that an appropriately trained and motivated workforce makes all the difference in business, which is why we are sponsoring this Grow Your Business event.

“Our Signpost 2 Grow team will be on hand during the event to help connect businesses to the help, support and funding they need to grow – from local training opportunities through to grant funding for new equipment. I would encourage as many businesses as possible to attend the event to find out how they can grow their business.”
