Businesses get ready to put Stamford first

Friday 6 May 2016

Stamford Chamber of Commerce is giving local businesses the opportunity to debate what they believe the town needs to ensure its economy continues to grow.

At the free event, being held at Borderville next Thursday, Councillor David Taylor, Chairman of StamfordFIRST, will outline what the new neighbourhood plan will do for Stamford and the opportunities the group is creating for the business community to get involved in its formation.

Richard Olsen, Chairman of Stamford Chamber of Commerce, said: “It’s crucially important that businesses are given the opportunity to feed into the plan and make sure that the measures that must be taken to create sustainable economic growth for the future are at its heart. This is a chance for businesses to influence the shape of the plan from the outset and we would encourage all businesses, whether members of the Chamber or not, to come along to this free event and show how integrally important the plan is to the future economy.”

The event will also invite businesspeople to engage with the Local Economy Group, which has been created specifically to consider potential economic drivers, identify future employment sites and identify opportunities to increase visitor numbers to the town centre through retail development and other key attractions. Members of the Planning Team from South Kesteven District Council will also be taking part in discussions.

Councillor David Taylor, Chairman of StamfordFIRST, said: “The creation of a Stamford Neighbourhood Plan is a really exciting opportunity for businesses to engage in a process which will enable them to shape the development of Stamford over the next two decades. In order to harness the town’s growth potential the plan will seek to secure appropriate improvements to infrastructure and we want every local business to have the opportunity to give their views on the needs and priorities they believe the plan should address.”

Sponsored by Bulley Davey, Hegarty Solicitors and New College Stamford, the free event is open to all local businesses.
