Green Travel Hub to launch at Cambourne Business Park

Monday 16 May 2016

Friday 20 May will see the launch of a new Green Travel Hub at Cambourne Business Park, offering vital services and equipment to make life easier for its enthusiastic green commuters.

All employees and visitors to the park arriving by foot, bicycle, electric car, or public transport, will be welcome to use the facilities which are centred on the Marketing Office building. There will be a fully-equipped cycle repair station with a set of essential tools, a fun car-shaped cycle rack, a charging point for electric vehicles plus a useful information board showing cycle routes and local travel information. The Hub will also host green travel events to support green commuters and visitors – from pop-up cafés, to breakfasts for car sharers.

Cambourne Business Park has led the way regionally in green initiatives for business parks, tackling its combined carbon footprint with energy-saving buildings and funding for green travel initiatives since the inception of the park in 2001.

Lesley Scobell, Marketing Manager and Green Travel Lead, explains: “We have a proud history of funding green travel and supporting early adopters. The results of our annual travel to work survey demonstrate that we have made significant impact – increasing levels of walking to work and commuting by bike by more than 300 per cent over 11 years. This Green Travel Hub is the start of a very welcome next phase and further evidence of our green travel credentials.”

The Hub is being developed through a partnership between Cambourne Business Park, Cambridgeshire County Council and Travel for Cambridgeshire. Funding has been secured from Cambridgeshire County Council’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund, which enables the delivery of sustainable transport solutions that support economic growth while reducing carbon.

“Everyone is very welcome to our launch event,” adds Lesley. “It will be a great opportunity to learn more about green travel and meet people who have taken up the challenge. The Green Travel Hub launch event will be held at the Marketing Office, Cambourne Business Park, on Friday 20 May from 12.00-2.00pm. We will have green travel exhibitors, an official opening ceremony, plus free tea, coffee and cakes for all.”
