Chamber President recognised in Queen's birthday honours

Monday 13 June 2016

Local businessman Iain Crighton has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

A successful entrepreneur and active member of the Peterborough business community, Iain has been recognised for the contribution he has made to increasing participation in sport across Cambridgeshire. He is also President of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce and Chairman of Peterborough Chamber of Commerce.

As Chairman of Living Sport, the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough County Sports Partnership, he has worked closely with Sport England to drive the county sports movement and as Chairman of Peterborough SportsAid he has been instrumental in raising almost £250,000 to help youngsters to achieve their sporting dreams. Olympic gymnast Louis Smith is just one of the many young athletes to have benefitted from support in the form of grants towards the cost of travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment.

Speaking of the announcement Iain Crighton said: “I am both stunned and delighted by the news. It’s a great privilege to be acknowledged in the Queen’s birthday honours list both personally but also in recognition of the outstanding work undertaken by Living Sport and Sport England to drive greater involvement in sport."

Iain has been President of the Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce since 2008 and is also the Chairman of the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce. A key driver behind the city’s skills agenda, he owns Crightons of Peterborough, a thriving motor service centre, and the city’s leading cycling supplier, Green Wheel Cycles.
