Peterborough businesses to receive expert HR and legal advice

Monday 4 July 2016

Businesses in Peterborough will receive expert HR and legal advice on how to manage the disciplinary process at a special event taking place in the city on Thursday.

The interactive seminar, which takes place at the Peterborough Marriott Hotel, will bring together local employers and HR managers to explore some of the best ways to manage staff conduct issues and ultimately avoid costly employment tribunal awards.

Specific case studies on the table will include an employee who’s been using a company mobile phone for making excessive private calls as well as someone who’s been making derogatory comments about their employer on social media.

John Bridge OBE DL, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce, said:
“We are delighted that members of the Chambers’ HR and Recruitment Sector have agreed to share their invaluable expertise once more to shape the way local companies respond to common employment issues.

“With personal use of social media continuing to grow in prevalence, this event will be particularly useful to companies keen to understand where they stand when a disgruntled employee vents their frustrations online.

“Employment tribunals can be costly both in money, time, reputation and staff morale. It’s crucial that employers understand not just their rights but their responsibilities also and ensure that, as well as following internal policies, they understand the importance of taking quality legal advice at the outset of any potential employment issue.”
