Peterborough Cathedral provided a superb setting for the International Women’s Day event held last week

Wednesday 14 March 2018

Organised by the Chambers' Business Women’s Sector, the event brought together 140 people from business and sixth form schools and colleges to focus on this year’s International Women’s Day theme Press for Progress.

After a short keynote address from Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya, guest speaker Georgie Bullen, Paralympian GB Goalball player spoke of her own experiences and challenges faced being visually impaired and her determination of not letting her disability get in her way. As well as competing for GB in the 2012 Paralympics Georgie has succeeded in setting up her own corporate team building business which raises visual impairment awareness.

Karen Beckwith, Chair of the Chamber’s Business Women’s Sector, said: “For the second year were delighted to host this prestigious event in the Cathedral focussing on our goal to support professional women to be successful and flourish in social, development and inspirational environments. It also provided a great way to bring together our existing workforce to engage with our workforce of the future. With so many fantastic career pathways and opportunities this is one small way we can raise this profile.”

The event was sponsored by Hunt and Coombs Solicitors and Metro Bank Peterborough.
