Friday 11 May saw the return of the annual ‘Contractors v Consultants’ Rugby match, held at Cambridge Rugby Club at Grantchester Road.

Cambridgeshire-based Consultants and Contractors across the Construction industry come together each year and battle it out in on the pitch, in the hope that they will walk away victorious.

Teams were made up of an assortment of rugby amateurs as well as first-time novices, all fuelled with the aim of conquering their rivals. Among the Contracting team were Mitch Newman and Michael Drake from Mick George Ltd, the company’s in-house ‘rugby-buffs’.

It was a tight-affair, with barely anything separating the two teams throughout the match, until the final seconds which were dominated by the Consultants team, who scored the winning try; putting them ahead of the Contractors by two points.

Competitiveness aside, both teams managed to join together to raise an incredible £2,105 for their chosen charity, WaterAid, who enables the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd, commented: “The Contractors v Consultants Rugby match is an event locked into the calendars within the Company here. Although well-known for being keen supporters of Football, it’s great to be able to network at such social events like Rugby matches.

“We try and welcome as many events as possible that concern raising funds for charity, and it’s great that our employees are so willing in their efforts to take part in initiatives that provide so much to communities across the country, and in this case, worldwide.”
