websters marks Employee Ownership Day

Friday 29 June 2018

websters, the tax, legal and accountancy experts, based predominately in Cambridge, are celebrating Employee Ownership Day today, Friday, 29 June.

The company recently started their journey towards becoming an employee-owned business – the so-called John Lewis model.

CEO Andrew Webster said: “We believe that Employee Ownership is the right option for websters going forward because it will allow us to protect and develop the core values of our business, which are focused on providing excellent and personal client service. It is a cliché to say that 'our most important asset is our team' but we are making that a reality – the team are the owners. We anticipate that the transition to majority ownership by the trust will take about four years.”

The transition to an Employee Owned business has had an influence already with staff. Employee, Trishna Shah, said: “We already have a consultative culture at websters and I believe that Employee Ownership is another positive step in the development of the business; it should give employees a greater say in how we might do things better and differently.”

The next step for the business is an ‘away day’ in September to discuss what Employee Ownership means for the whole company which has offices in Cambridge and Norfolk.

The business has already attained and maintained the Investors in People (IIP) Gold status for a number of years.

The Employee Ownership Day is a national campaign which celebrates what employee ownership means to employee-owners, businesses and the impact they have on their local economies.
