Play alongside U’s legends

Thursday 30 August 2018

Up and down the country, football fanatics are eagerly watching their teams every move wondering what it would actually be like to be out on the hallowed turf alongside their heroes.

That dream can now be a reality for Cambridge United FC supporters who courtesy of official sponsors Mick George Ltd, now have the chance to do just that.

The sponsors will be holding their annual Charity Match held at the Abbey Stadium on Friday 19 October. It is the fourth consecutive year that the event has been held, raising a fantastic £10,000 cumulatively for various charitable causes.

This year, all funds generated will be donated to the ongoing medical requirements and family support of United’ fan Simon Dobbin, who was a victim of serious injury some time ago while watching his beloved U’s.

The business has previously managed to bring many famous faces back to the Abbey’ for the occasion, including Andy Sinton, Trevor Benjamin, Dave Kitson, Max Rushden, and many, many more. This time around will be no different, with Ian Miller, Danny Potter, Paul Wanless and John Taylor just some of the names set to don’ the Amber strip once again.

Supporters will be given the opportunity to relive the match-day experience as a player, consuming the changing room, tunnel and dugout area, before taking to the pitch. Each player will be given a minimum of 60 minutes action. Family and friends are welcomed, and to attend the post-match presentation and refreshments.

This once in a lifetime opportunity is available at its lowest ever price, just £99. All proceeds will go to the continued support of the Dobbin family.

A complimentary replicas shirt with your name printed on the reverse will also be supplied.

Limited spaces available. Book your place early at www.mickgeorge.co.uk/charitymatch18.html or alternatively email marketing@mickgeorge.co.uk or call 0800 587 3329.

Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd, commented: “Having been fortunate to get on the pitch and in the changing rooms of the previous three events, I’ve had first-hand experience of the excitable atmosphere and buzz that was present at these matches.

“For supporters, the chance to play with club legends that they’ve only been able to watch in the past is a magical experience. Despite carrying a few more grey hairs, the legends certainly still have the same level of quality that they had in their prime.”
