Mick’s brought it home… again!

Thursday 6 September 2018

Where England may have come up just short in their bid to bring the World Cup home that certainly wasn’t the case for Mick George Ltd who for the second consecutive year managed to claim industry bragging rights, defending their Waste World Cup title.

After an impressive performance last year which didn’t see them concede a goal until the knockout stages, they went one better this time around and didn’t concede a single goal in the entire competition during normal time.

The opposition’s goal wasn’t quite so quiet, as Mick George managed to score 12 goals without reply, owing largely to the contribution of Luke Plumb who notched half of the team’s tally.

Having eased through to the final with relative ease, the last encounter wasn’t quite as straight forward. Grundon put up a valiant effort and took the game to penalty kicks, but Mick George Ltd were determined to see the job through and came out victorious with a 5-4 win.

The squad this year had four changes from last year and although it may have appeared on paper to be a misfit of IT gurus, sales and operational directors, through to finance administrational personnel, they definitely defied the odds in claiming the trophy once again.

Chris Gunkel, Head of Sales Operations at Mick George Ltd, said: “Once again it was another great occasion and while everyone involved had a lot of fun, we must remember the real purpose of the day was to support a great charitable cause.

“It’s always nice to win and it certainly makes next year very interesting as we aim to make it three in a row. I’m not sure if that has been achieved before.”
