What’s On Guide: The Cambridgeshire Meeting 2018

Friday 14 September 2018

The Cambridgeshire Meeting returns to Newmarket Racecourses on Thursday 27–Saturday 29 September with world-class racing and an entertainment line-up that includes the annual Beer Festival, a new comedy offer from The Comedy Club and live music.

The three-day extravaganza kicks off on Thursday with a fantastic eight-race card featuring the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes and the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl. The annual Beer Festival – which runs across all three days – will feature dozens of beers, real ales and ciders from local breweries and those further afield for racegoers to sample; whilst live music can be enjoyed between all the action on the track.

Friday sees the return of Shadwell Day for its second year, and is led by two Group 2 races each worth £100,000: the Shadwell Rockfel Stakes and Shadwell Joel Stakes. You can also hear the patter of tiny hooves as the Shetland Pony Race starts proceedings prior to the first race at 12.50pm - a spectacle which really should not be missed.

The Cambridgeshire Meeting reaches its climax on Saturday with two Group 1 contests for juveniles, the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes and the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes. These are followed by the famous Cambridgeshire Heritage Handicap, the first leg of the historic Autumn Double, where 30 horses thunder up the track of the Rowley Mile.

Away from the track, racegoers on Saturday will be treated to the first ever stand-up comedy show at Newmarket Racecourses. Featuring four emerging comedic stars from The Comedy Club, the comedy showcase will take place on the Boulevard in the Grandstand & Paddock Enclosure, next to the Beer Festival. Laura Lexx, Adam Morrison, Mark Simmons and Matt Stellingwerf will each take to the mic for 20-minute stand up slots as the racing comes to a close.

Saturday is also a great day for families, with FREE entertainment in the Garden Enclosure including face painters, inflatables and Rowley’s Kids Club. Plus, children under the age of 18 are welcome FREE, making it an affordable day out!

Prices start from £14.25 when booked in advance. Racegoers are urged to book quickly to avoid disappointment. Looking to make your day out at the Cambridgeshire even more special? Why not book a table in the Champions Gallery Restaurant at the Rowley Mile? This panoramic restaurant will give you unrivalled views of all the action on track, alongside exquisite Fine Dining.
