Deepings' club in the swim with Larkfleet backing

Tuesday 2 October 2018

The Larkfleet Homes Community Fund has handed 250 to Deepings Swimming Club to cover the costs of a new banner for its Deeping Leisure Centre HQ.

The community fund supports groups which focus on activities that enhance or develop local communities. It makes grants to charities or voluntary organisations within 10 miles (16 kilometres) of any housing development by Larkfleet Homes or Allison Homes, both part of The Larkfleet Group of Companies which is based in Bourne, Lincolnshire.

Stephen Tappern of Deeping Swimming Club said: "The club wanted to purchase a new banner with our new logo on it and updated pictures to celebrate our recent successes. It helps us to promote ourselves to visitors to the leisure centre and to recruit new swimmers. Who knows, we could be recruiting the Adam Peaty of the future."

Deeping Swimming Club has been recognised for its contribution to the local community in raising the awareness of the local area through the press coverage it gets following its competitive successes. The club brings together swimmers from the age of seven to 68 years old. It boasts a current membership of approximately 150 swimmers from the surrounding towns and villages, including Bourne, Deepings, Stamford and Spalding. The club is run by a team of volunteers who give a substantial amount of time for the benefit of the swimmers.

Training takes place regularly throughout the week and swimmers compete in meets and galas throughout the East of England, the Midlands and nationally.

"We are delighted to welcome Larkfleet Homes as a sponsor and thank them for their contribution to helping to promote the sport of swimming both locally and more widely," added Stephen Tappern.

Karl Hick, CEO of The Larkfleet Group of Companies and a keen sportsman himself, said: "It's really important to us that when we build new homes for people, we actually develop communities.

"Sport is a great way to bring communities together and give young people a constructive outlet for their enthusiasm and energy. We are delighted to support initiatives such as this through our community fund."
