Cambridge cycle point to be deep-cleaned

Monday 8 October 2018

Cyclists in Cambridge are being asked to remove any unused bikes from the city’s largest parking facility before it undergoes a deep cleaning and maintenance programme.

Greater Anglia plans to deep clean the cycle point facility outside Cambridge railway station in October, to create a more pleasant environment for customers, and free up more space for cyclists.

Starting from 15 October, tags will be attached to cycles. Cyclists should remove the tag from the bike to indicate it is being used.
Any cycles with tags left on them after 31 October will be removed from the cycle point and stored nearby. Anyone wishing to claim their bike can do so by contacting us.

After three months, any unclaimed cycles will be donated to charity.

Paul Wilkinson, Greater Anglia’s Integrated Transport Manager, said: “We know some bikes have been abandoned at Cambridge cycle point and we are working to clear these to free up space for those who wish to use it.

“A small number of cycles have been abandoned in the cycle point and we will remove these first. We will then ask people to indicate that they are still using their cycles and then we will deep clean the entire building.

“Cycle point remains a safe, free, space for people to park their bikes and we are committed to keeping it in good condition for the thousands of people who use it every day.”

The cycle park, which opened in February 2016, cost £2.5m and has 2,850 cycle spaces. It’s the biggest facility of its kind in the country.
