David Wilkinson – author of God, Time and Stephen Hawking – will ‘Search for God’ at Peterborough Cathedral on 1 November

Monday 8 October 2018

Author, scientist and theologian David Wilkinson will be exploring one of life's biggest questions at Peterborough Cathedral on Thursday 1 November with his talk: 'The Search for God – Can Science Help?'

He will tackle this question by looking at the mixed reactions of astronauts and cosmologists, including Stephen Hawking, before moving on to look at the origin of the Universe.

David Wilkinson is currently Principal of St John's College at Durham University and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. He has had a long interest in the often complementary worlds of science and religion, and has written a variety of books on this theme, including God, Time and Stephen Hawking (2001) and Science, Religion and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (2014).

He has also trained for the Methodist ministry, studying theology at Fitzwilliam College and Wesley House, Cambridge, and serving in a variety of appointments, including a role as Methodist Chaplain at Liverpool University.

His current work involves the relationship of Christian theology to contemporary culture – from science to pop culture.

'The Search for God – Can Science Help?' will take place on Thursday 1 November at 7.30pm, and entry is free. Donations are invited.
