Sports Fund Announcement

One year on since the creation of the dedicated ‘Sports Fund’ scheme, a collaborative grant offering from local construction specialist Mick George Ltd and Living Sport charity, and sport facilitators in Cambridgeshire have certainly taken full advantage of the programme.

The fourth and final application round has now finished, with a further 10 applicants receiving funding to a value of £12,427.

Funding summary:

- Eaton Socon Football Club: Goalposts and nets (£1,500)
- Invictus Bowmen: Archery targets (£1,415)
- St Ives Rugby Union: Portable pitch side electronic scoreboard (£1,500)
- City of Ely ASC: New land training equipment (£900)
- Witchford Archers: New targets and archery kits (£1,500)
- Wimblington Bowls Club: Grounds maintenance (£612)
- Power to Inspire: New equipment to use at Power House Games (£800)
- Cantabrigian RC Boathouse: Gym equipment (£1,500)
- Soke Target Sports Club: Turning targets and semi-automatic rifles (£1,500)
- Chatteris Tennis Club: Practice equipment (£1,200)

The inaugural year of the ‘Sports Fund’ can certainly be deemed a success. In its entirety, 42 separate initiatives have been supported, with donations exceeding £50,000. A plethora of different activities have benefitted, from football, rowing, bowls, archery, cricket, netball, canoeing and athletics clubs, just some of the fortunate grant recipients.

Simon Fairhall, Chief Executive of Living Sport, said: “We are really pleased with the interest that has grown in the fund throughout the year, which is confirmation of its need. This year was about establishing the fund and with in excess of 200 expressions of interest that has certainly been achieved. We look forward to another successful year next year.”

Registrations for the next round are already open, and those behind the fund are urging any sports group in need up financial assistance to register before 31 March. The funding availability has been topped up once again for 2019, with another £50,000 available for worthy causes.
