Carols at Cambridge stations to tackle loneliness this Christmas

Tuesday 11 December 2018

Customers at two Cambridge rail stations will be welcomed by carol singers this festive period.

On 11 December at 10.00am, Greater Anglia staff will be singings carols at Cambridge North station.
Sasha Migdal, who works as a welcome host at Cambridge North, has invited an audience of elderly people to help tackle loneliness.

“I wanted to ask the elderly congregation from the local church as it can be a hard and lonely time for them over the Christmas period. Some of them don't have family or friends around and I wanted to do something nice for them,” she said.
There will also be a collection to support the oncology and haematology unit at Addenbrooke’s hospital.

Local church choristers will treat commuters to more Christmas carols on Thursday 13 December from 5.00-7.00pm and another collection will be held in aid of Addenbrooke’s.

On Monday 19 December, children from St Peters Junior School will be singing carols and handing out mince pies in front of the Cambridge BID Christmas tree at Cambridge railway station from 4.00-6.00pm.

Mike Barry, Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, said: “Cambridge is a beautiful place to visit at Christmas time, and we hope the various carol singing events will help spread some festive cheer to those visiting and our customers who live in the area.

“Everyone is welcome to attend any of the carol concerts, and we hope to raise some money for Addenbrooke’s in the process.

“We would like to wish all of our passengers a very merry Christmas and happy New Year.”
