3G astro-pitch installed at Eynesbury Rovers FC

Monday 17 December 2018

As the winter months set in and the weather begins to take its toll on the playing condition of football pitches up and down the country, football players in Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire will be grateful for an impressive new 3G astro-pitch that has been installed at Eynesbury Rovers FC.

Courtesy of a substantial £30,000 grant from local construction business Mick George Ltd, an existing tennis court at the Alfred Hall Memorial Ground has been replaced with a flood-lit and fenced asto-pitch, forming part of the total £62,000 investment on the facility.

The pitch will predominantly be used by Eynesbury Rovers youth teams, for which there are currently eight within the 18-18 age categories and will prevent costly expenditure for weekly training sessions.

Cara Thorpe, Fundraiser for Eynesbury Rovers FC said: “We are extremely grateful to Mick George Ltd for their generous contribution which has enabled the transformation of this previously under-utilised location, in to a sports facility that will certainly benefit a diverse audience from the local community.”

As well as permitting the opportunity to provide additional practice sessions, the Club are hoping to expand the existing offering to walking football, veteran teams and girl’s teams, as well as other sports.

Interest is already mounting, with two expressions of interest from the youth sections of St Neots and Priory Park. While there are similar premises already in St Neots, they are often fully booked, for which this new amenity should help satisfy demand.

Jon Stump, Joint CEO of Mick George Ltd, said: “It is great to see another of the sporting Clubs in our operating region take advantage of our Community Fund. We know how difficult it is for these Clubs’ to raise the capital required to make any upgrades, so we’re more than happy to help where possible.

“We’ve been involved in similar projects and have witnessed how important such facilities can be in the development of local talent.”
