George Hay Chartered Accountants fundraise to help beat heartbreak forever

Tuesday 19 March 2019

Local chartered accountants, George Hay, proudly made a donation to the British Heart Foundation last month.

Staff took part in a 'Charity Valentine's Raffle', to be in with a chance of winning one of two restaurant vouchers worth 40.

The raffle proved very popular and, between them, the team managed to raise 138 from ticket purchases.

The British Heart Foundation raise money to research cures and treatments for heart and circulatory diseases in the UK.

In Bedfordshire, specifically, there are around 61,000 people living with heart and circulatory disease and 20,000 living with coronary heart disease, whilst in Cambridgeshire these figures rise to 84,000 and 25,000 respectively.

Sarah Cunningham, British Heart Foundation Fundraising Officer for Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, visited George Hay's office in Biggleswade to accept the donation from Marketing Manager, Ashleigh Coombes and Payroll Administrator, Samantha Bassett (who was also one of the winners of the raffle).

Sarah said: "Heart disease is heartless. Too many lives are lost in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire each year, and we're determined to do everything we can to protect more families from this devastation."

"I'd like to say a huge thank you to George Hay for helping us beat heartbreak forever."

Handing over the cheque on behalf of the firm, Ashleigh said: "As Valentine's Day approached, we knew we wanted to do something to support the incredible work that the British Heart Foundation do in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and throughout the UK."

"The number of people living with heart disease in Cambridgeshire is astounding. We are thrilled that the money we have raised will help the charity to continue the vital research that is needed to improve and save lives"

This year marks 80 years since George Hay's Biggleswade office was first established and so continues 12 months of 80-themed activities to celebrate the occasion.

Last month's fundraising follows on from a donation of winter clothing items to Bedfordshire-based homelessness charity, The King's Arms Project, in January.
