Football Shirt Friday – Beat Bowel Cancer Together

Friday 26 April 2019

Staff at the office of local construction business Mick George Ltd put their football rivalries aside on Friday 26 April, as they showed their support for The Bobby Moore Fund in aid of Cancer Research UK, raising more than £100.

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and the charity is encouraging everyone to do their part to combat this potentially fatal disease.

The latest initiative ‘Football Shirt Friday’ gave employees the chance making a small donation in exchange for attending their place of work in a football shirt of choice, with all proceeds gifted to the respective charity.

The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK was set up 25 years ago and has since seen mortality rates fall by more than 30 per cent, with over £26 million raised for research in the meantime.

But, the alarming statistics related to the illness indicate that there is still work to do.

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK with 41 cases diagnosed each year. However, when it’s detected at the earliest stage, more than nine in 10 people will survive for five years or more

Jon Stump, Joint CEO at Mick George Ltd, commented: “Whilst there has undoubtedly been progression relating to Cancer treatment is recent times, there is still a long way to go until the disease is nullified to a minimal level.

“Over the years our staff have engaged in various campaigns to raise funds for many wonderful causes, this is just another example of their commitment to helping where they can.”
