26,000 Visitors, Countless Stories: Travelling Bricks Comes to a Close at Peterborough Cathedral

Business Growth & Development2 September 2026

After welcoming more than 26,000 visitors, Travelling Bricks at Peterborough Cathedral has now drawn to a close, marking a hugely successful summer season and demonstrating the important role the Cathedral plays in attracting visitors, increasing city-centre footfall and connecting audiences with the wider cultural and business life of Peterborough.

Over the course of the exhibition which began in July, thousands of people from Peterborough, the surrounding region and further afield have visited the Cathedral, helping to increase footfall in the city centre and creating opportunities for visitors to experience more of what Peterborough has to offer.

The exhibition also provided an opportunity for the Cathedral to work closely with local city-centre businesses and organisations through the Golden Brick and 20-Brick Challenge. These collaborations demonstrated the value of bringing culture, heritage and the local economy together, giving visitors more reasons to spend time in the city and supporting the businesses that make Peterborough’s centre such a vibrant place to visit.

Jack Pishhorn, COO at Peterborough Cathedral said:

“The response to Travelling Bricks has been fantastic. To welcome 26,000 visitors is a tremendous achievement, but what makes us particularly proud is the way the exhibition has connected people with Peterborough beyond the Cathedral itself. Our thanks go to everyone who visited, supported the exhibition and took part in the challenges, as well as the local businesses who helped us make the experience a city-wide one. We have loved welcoming so many people through our doors and sharing this exhibition with them.”

And the story doesn’t end there…

As Travelling Bricks comes to an end, Peterborough Cathedral is already preparing to welcome its next major exhibition: Mary, Queen of Scots: The Exhibition, running from 21 September to 15 November 2026.

This stunning new exhibition will bring visitors face-to-face with the real history of one of Britain’s most compelling historical figures, through an exceptional collection of original artefacts, historic letters, personal belongings and objects connected to Mary’s extraordinary life.

From her childhood and accession to the Scottish throne, through political intrigue, personal tragedy and almost two decades of imprisonment, Mary, Queen of Scots’ extraordinary life has fascinated generations. Her story also has a unique and deeply significant connection to Peterborough Cathedral, where she was originally buried following her execution in 1587, before her remains were later moved to Westminster Abbey. This exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to encounter authentic artefacts connected to Mary and her world, bringing her remarkable story to life and exploring the woman behind one of history’s most enduring legends.

With Travelling Bricks bringing 26,000 visitors to the Cathedral and into the heart of Peterborough, the Cathedral is looking forward to continuing this momentum into autumn with their new exhibition.
