Cambridgeshire’s biggest bus operator, Stagecoach East, has released figures showing that it currently runs almost 99.5% of the miles it is scheduled to run in the region.
Stagecoach routinely records the actual number of miles that it runs, and, where it cannot run them, the reasons why. It has now revealed that, across its Cambridge and Fenstanton depots, it is able to complete 99.34% of the miles that it is timetabled to run in the town. This means that the operator has been unable to complete only one in every 200 miles that it has been due to run locally.
Darren Roe, Managing Director of Stagecoach East, said: “These figures are a testament to the hard work done by our colleagues, day in and day out, to make sure that we offer the reliable service that our customers deserve.
“There will always times when we cannot run a journey, for a number of reasons, such as local congestion, but my team work hard because we know that people rely on our services for important life events, like getting to work and attending hospital appointments, so it is crucial that we get it right. I am very proud to say that the fact is that the figures prove you can rely on us time and time again.”
Recent figures from campaign group, Bus Users UK, highlighted the financial impact that buses have on local communities. It found that bus operators directly employ 105,000 people and support employment of a further 53,000 in the sector’s supply chain – which provides a £11 bn boost to the British economy.
