Summer Super Draw for Hospice Care

Charity Walk around Cambridge colleges
Join Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Romsey Mill on Sunday 13 September for the ‘Bridge the Gap’ Walk around Cambridge colleges. With a brand new route for 2026, starting from Parkers Piece in Cambridge you can visit colleges – Jesus, St Johns, Trinity, Gonville and Caius, Queens and Downing. The Society of Cambridge Tourist Guides will also be on route ready to answer your questions and entertain you with fascinating facts and stories along the way. Lead On with your pet in September!
See how far you and your pet can walk from 1 – 30 September to support patients with Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. They suggest 3k a day but it is whatever distance your pet can manage. Fill a Bag for £5’ Event
Following the success of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s first ‘Fill a Bag for £5.00’ event they will be hosting another sale on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October! They would like to thank the 500 plus people who came along to the event at the Hospice in April, and took home bags full of good quality women’s, men’s and children’s clothes. Cambridge to Ely Charity Walk
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity’s first ever Cambridge to Ely Trek in March, saw walkers take on the 17 mile route, raising an amazing £48,000 (including gift aid) for the Charity. From the early start in Cambridge, along the Fen Rivers Way, to crossing the finish line with tea, cake and medals waiting, the atmosphere was unforgettable. The Charity would like to say a huge thank you to every trekker, everyone who donated, and all who made the event possible. Mission Mud
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity would like to thank the 60 people who took on mud, water and climbing obstacles at ‘Mission Mud’ at The Playground in Waterbeach, raising over £10,300 for Hospice Care. To book your place for Saturday 8 May 2027 visit arhc.org.uk/missionmud
Fair Funding for Hospice Care
Patients are now being admitted to Medically Light Beds at Arthur Rank Hospice, which has been possible due to the funding raised from their ‘Protect our Care’ campaign. They are working hard to secure longer-term funding for this service. CEO, Sharon Allen and Inpatient Unit Ward Manager, Jenny Oakes joined hospice leaders from across the country, together with colleagues from Hospice UK, in Westminster on 15 April to deliver a letter to the Prime Minister to call for fair funding for hospice care. 6 in 10 hospices have or are planning service cuts and the current situation is not sustainable long term. It will cost over £14.7 million to run Arthur Rank Hospice services in 2026/27. Contracted services from the NHS are budgeted at £7.4 million. With the help of the community, they need to raise a further £7.3 million through donations, fundraising activities, retail sales, the Education and Conference Centre and Bistro. Sustaining services for people in the growing community is their focus and they are extremely grateful to everyone who demonstrates their dedication, commitment and generosity and helps protect their funding for the future. Would your company like to volunteer?
Taking part in corporate volunteering has benefits for both Charity’s and for volunteers. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity have recently had teams from Charles River Laboratories, Lloyds Bank and Hilton Cambridge working in their beautiful gardens, helping to set up the ‘Fill a Bag for £5’ sale and sorting donations at their Retail Hub. This is an excellent way to build connections within company teams and boost staff morale whilst making a meaningful impact within the local community. Have you written your Will?
Writing a Will is essential to ensure that, after your death your wishes are respected. Many people have said they feel better once they have written their Will so they can get on with living. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity has paired with the National Free Farewills Network to make writing your Will easier. One of the Charity’s Trustees, Julia Curtis and her husband, recently used the network and kindly shared their experience: “We decided to use the National Free Farewills Network after a positive recommendation from a friend. The instructions were very clear and the whole process was easy and efficient. Bereavement Support
Arthur Rank Hospice Charity hosts a ‘Grief Kind Space’ bereavement support group every Friday from 10am to midday in their Bistro. Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in Shelford Bottom, Cambridge hosts regular one hour ‘Open Day sessions’ for anyone who would like to know more about their services.
