Two bus drivers from Cambridge have been given a prestigious award in recognition of their kindness and quick-thinking in getting a young girl back on track after she had accidentally got on the wrong bus.
Ait Sbirou and Richard Froment, from Stagecoach East, won a Star of the Month Award, in the category of ‘We Support Communities’, after the 13 year old girl’s Mother wrote to Cambridgeshire’s biggest bus operator to thank them for their compassion and professionalism.
The Mum explained that her daughter had got on the bus intending to go towards Cambridge, but, in fact, made a mistake and got on the bus to Haverhill. She realised her mistake when she arrived in Haverhill and the bus driver was very helpful, asking a bus going towards Cambridge to wait for her, so she could change direction.
She said: “She was slightly tearful and both bus drivers were very kind. I picked her up from the bus stop in Linton and the driver very kindly waited until I was there to make sure my daughter met me directly, as opposed to being left at the stop.”
