Nick Holmes

Local Business Manager at Metro Bank

Nick is the Local Business Manager at Metro Bank and relationship manager for over 1,300 businesses across East Anglia.

Nick started his career in the food and wine sector. During that time he worked for Waitrose as a fruit, veg and horticulture specialist and as a wine specialist. Later he moved to Bristol to work at Averys Wine Merchants. Various roles included fully re-writing the customer-facing descriptions and tasting notes for over 1,000 SKUs, fine wine and en-primeur brokering, account management and hosting regular tasting events. Nick is WSET qualified completing the Advanced course with Merit. He later moved to London and worked for an independent merchant on the Brompton road as content editor for the website whilst also supporting the store.

Nick joined Metro Bank in 2014 upon recommendation from a Local Director and quickly found that many of his relationship management skills directly translated to Metro Bank’s ethos. Nick became a Chartered Banker in 2016 and moved to Cambridge as a Local Business Manager in 2017 to take on new challenges but also to be closer to family.

Nick remains a keen foodie and enjoys keeping up with the ebb and flow of the wine trade. Aside from that Nick is fascinated by the evolution of technology, especially where noble goals are sought, and even right from the early stages as an idea first becomes a business which makes Cambridge the perfect place for him to work.
