Charity offers to take hassle of recycling Christmas trees in exchange for donations

November 15, 2019

Needles in cars and queuing at tips are symptoms of disposing Christmas trees that do not help when it comes to beating the post-festive blues, however, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is offering residents of Huntingdon, St Ives and surrounding villages a far more hassle-free recycling method this Yuletide.

In exchange for a voluntary donation, EACH volunteers will be collecting trees in the PE27, PE28 and PE29 postcode areas between 8.00am and 5.00pm on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 January.

Bronte Graver, EACH Cambridgeshire Community Fundraiser, said: “We all know it can be a pain getting rid of Christmas trees! This is an easier way to do it and whilst starting the New Year by making a donation to charity. We rely on the support of communities across the county and the rest of the region to ensure we can keep providing care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions, as well as support for their families, and I hope people will come together for one last moment of giving at the end of the festive season.”

To ensure trees are picked up, people are asked to request a collection and make a donation, if they wish to, at https://just-helping.org.uk/xmas-trees. Registration opens on Friday 15 November and will close on Wednesday 8 January.

EACH’s Christmas tree collection is in partnership with Just Helping, Highways England and John Talbot Tree Surgery.

Just Helping has helped organise similar collections across Cambridgeshire and beyond in previous years. Last Christmas 33,233 trees were collected by 919 volunteers, raising a staggering £412,535.
