Could you get more hours out of your workforce instead of recruiting?

July 3, 2023

We sometimes hear that one of the barriers to unlocking employment is the “loss of benefits if someone works too much”, and how “it isn’t worth it”.  The Department for Work and Pensions is supporting those with a very low incomes from work to help them access opportunities to increase their earnings.  The Job Cente Plus will work with key partners, including local government, employers and skills providers to identify and develop local progression opportunities, and to overcome barriers that limit the progression of employees.

It’s not just about the employee though, as improving progression in the workplace has some real benefits for employers, such as:

  • Improved staff wellbeing and attendance
  • Improved job satisfaction
  • Retention of employees
  • A better skilled workforce
  • A more productive workforce.

YOUR business could benefit from offering more hours to your workforce, upskilling them and unlocking their potential, rather than having to recruit and then train new people.  The added incentive is that there can be funding available to help you unlock skills training.

If there is member demand, the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce will arrange a Q&A session with the Job Centre where you can find out more.  Please email enquiries@cambscci.co.uk if you would be interested in such a meeting.
