EACH benefiting from special art exhibition at Cambridge hotel

October 11, 2019

A unique set of artwork featuring natural specimens has gone on display at a Cambridge hotel to raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The pieces are by local collaborative art duo Gilda & Lily, also known as Samantha Cross and Katherine Mann, and form part of their Curios Eulogy series. The series was driven by their shared interest in the curation of objects, entomology and osteology. Using deconstructed landscapes interspersed with natural specimens such as skulls and insects, Gilda & Lily draw on memories to reflect themes of escape, triumph, consequence and resolution. Every specimen used in their work is delicately gilded with 24-carat gold leaf and natural diamonds can be found hidden on their most prized pieces.

The work is at the Tamburlaine Hotel, in Station Road, which has offered Gilda & Lily space on its dining room walls for free, as part of its support of EACH, until mid-November. Anyone is welcome to go along and have a look, and 30 per cent of any sales will go to EACH.

Gilda said: “It’s been fantastic to work with Alison from the Tamburlaine to make this fundraising exhibition happen. Our pieces have been worked into the existing interior and artwork of the hotel, and look really at home.

“Most of our works are sold in London, so being able to showcase the series in Cambridge, in such a fabulous setting, is amazing. We’re both great supporters of EACH and hope to raise lots of funds. Please drop in and see if the works are right for your home, your company offices or for a Christmas present.”

Maddy Dodsworth, EACH Major Donor Manager, said: “We rely on voluntary donations for the majority of our income and each year need to bring in over £6.4 million from fundraising, so support such as this from Gilda & Lily is absolutely fantastic and very much appreciated. Their artwork’s so unique that I doubt you’d find anything like it elsewhere, so do head over to the Tamburlaine Hotel and have a look!”
