New art exhibition from Rowan & Friends

August 5, 2021

Cambridge-based arts charity Rowan is teaming up with local gallery Motion Sickness Project Space for an exhibition showcasing the work of adults with learning disabilities.

The exhibition, which takes place from 12 August to 5 September, includes artwork by the charity’s student artists as well as staff and volunteers. In addition to sculptures, paintings and prints from Rowan’s many art studios, there will also be a cinema screening videos about Rowan’s music, drama and forest school workshops. There will also be a preview party on 19 August where audiences get the chance to meet the artists involved in the exhibition.

“This exhibition is a great chance to introduce the general public to the ethos of Rowan – where we’re all about friendship and art,” says ceramics tutor Sarah Nibbs. “It’s going to be a really family-friendly space – we’ll be running free art workshops throughout the exhibition, and everyone is welcome. Hopefully it’ll be a good way for parents to keep their kids entertained through the summer holiday!”

Motion Sickness Project Space is an artist-led gallery based in an empty retail unit at the Lion Yard Shopping Centre in central Cambridge. The gallery opened in 2019 and since then has hosted a series of exhibitions and events celebrating artists both locally and nationally.

Rowan & Friends will run from Thursday 12 August until Sunday 5 September 2021. The exhibition preview party takes place on Thursday 19 August, 5.00-9.00pm. Both are free to attend. To find out more, please contact Rowan on 01223 566027 or email ellie@rowanhumberstone.co.uk
