Cyclists hit top gear and use pedal power to support EACH

Pedal power was the order of the day at a fundraising event in Cambridgeshire.
Cyclists hit top gear at the popular Bromswold Bike Fest and supported three worthy causes, including East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).
Proceeds raised £2,111 for EACH – taking the total donated to the charity since 2017 to a stunning £10,547.
Carol Greed, one of the organisers, said: “EACH has been one of the local charities supported by Bromswold Bike Fest since 2017. The hospice has provided invaluable support to one of the families living in Leighton Bromswold. It was a natural choice to benefit from this event and we look forward to continuing our association with such a worthy cause.”
The Bromswold Bike Fest, which attracts cyclists of all fitness levels, ages and ability, took place on 11 September and also supported Macmillan Cancer Support and Magpas Air Ambulance.
There were six marked routes on quiet west Cambridgeshire roads, ranging in distance from eight miles up to 70.
The event was back after a hiatus last year because of COVID with over 260 cyclists helping raise a grand total of £6,321. It was the seventh edition of the event, which has now raised an incredible £41,361.
Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, opened proceedings and then cycled one of the routes with his daughter.
EACH was represented on the day with a stand, fundraising game and collection buckets, raising even more to the totals above.
The riders returned to a carnival atmosphere in Leighton Bromswold, with live music from the HuMS (Huntingdon Music School), tea and cake, a barbecue, real ale and Pimms. There were also numerous fete stalls run by local community organisations.
Charlotte Griggs, EACH Community Fundraising Assistant for Cambridgeshire and West Essex, said: “We’re grateful to receive this money and be one of the charities to benefit from this year’s Bromswold Bike Fest.
“It’s such a popular and successful event and one we’re proud to have been associated with for the last four years, having received over £10,000. The support of those living in our communities is absolutely vital to our work. It helps us to continue providing care and support to children, young people and families in Cambridgeshire and across East Anglia.”
The Bike Fest was supported by Peter Lane and Partners Estate Agents, Tesco and Pedal Barn cycle shop in Thrapston.
A cheque presentation took place outside the Green Man pub in Leighton Bromswold.
