More Greater Anglia trains to stop at key stadium station on rugby final day

May 23, 2022

Greater Anglia is putting on extra services to help rugby fans going to the Tottenham Stadium for the Wigan Warriors vs Huddersfield Giants Rugby League Challenge Cup final this weekend.

A total of 65 extra trains will stop throughout the day at Northumberland Park station, close to the Tottenham Stadium where the match is taking place on Saturday 28 May.

All trains between Stratford and Meridian Water/Bishops Stortford which normally stop at the station will do so, while additional trains between Liverpool Street and Hertford East, Cambridge North and Stansted Airport will also stop between 12.00-3.00pm and 4.30-8.00pm, allowing as many rugby lovers to travel to and from the area as possible.

The trains will remain in the platform for longer than normal to allow everyone to get on and off. Fans travelling to Northumberland Park should not travel in the rear three carriages of the company’s longer 10 or 12 carriage trains as trains are longer than platforms at the station.

Trains are expected to be very busy from Tottenham Hale before and after the game, so customers using London Underground’s Victoria line are encouraged to walk to the stadium, which is around 25 minutes away on foot, to help reduce any crowding. After the game, special queuing arrangements will be put in place at both Tottenham Hale and Northumberland Park stations to ensure that everyone can board trains safely. Extra Greater Anglia staff will be on hand to help anyone travelling.

Mike Barry, Greater Anglia’s head of customer service for the West Anglia region, said: “We are running as many trains as possible with extra stops to get everyone where they need to go and enjoy a good game of rugby.

“Our trains are likely to be very busy both before and after the match, so we’d advise you to leave plenty of time for your journey.

“Plenty of our staff will be on hand at stations, but please be patient as we need to put in a special queuing system to ensure everyone can get on our trains safely after the game.”
