Professional Catering trio reach live finals

January 28, 2022

Cambridge Regional College, Culinary Arts students Adriel Mascharenas, Alfie Bradford and David Carr secure a place in the live finals of the prestigious Country Range Student Chef Challenge 2022 after submitting an impressive three-course menu in the preliminary round of the competition.

The Country Range Student Chef Challenge invites UK colleges to enter teams of three full-time student chefs studying catering or hospitality. The teams must devise a three-course, four cover menu that showcases their skill and understanding of flavours, and the team must be able to prepare, cook, and deliver their menu within 90-minutes.

Chef Lecturer, Jake Piper said: “Adriel, Alfie and David were introduced to the competition earlier this year and have really engaged with the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills. The trio’s imaginative menu impressed the judges, securing them one of eight places in the live grand final in London. They are thrilled to be in the final stages of the competition and will spend the coming weeks perfecting their dishes.”

The paper judging took place on Friday 14 January where Craft Guild of Chefs judges reviewed the entries for this year. The judges feedback on the CRC entry stated: “The standard of entries received has been higher than ever so Adriel, Alfie and David should be very proud of the menu they have worked together to create.”

In the next stage of the competition, the trio will attend the Hospital, Catering and Restaurant (HCR) show at London’s ExCel on 22 March where they will meet the judges and prepare their menu for tasting.
