Residents in Ellington, Huntingdonshire have a new recreational facility to enjoy, following the significant upgrade to play equipment located at the village’s playing fields.

The previous, old, damaged and unsafe apparatus has been replaced with a broader range of modern play and fitness equipment that is likely to appeal to a wider audience, both young and old.

The installation of a new slide, roundabout, climbing frame and swings at the destination owes largely to a combined contribution from Mick George Ltd and the local community. The firm donated £26,000 towards the £37,000 project, with the remainder donated from numerous fund-raising efforts (including; Gala, Sports Day, Treasure Hunt etc.).

Steve Nicholls, Treasurer at Ellington Playing Facilities Association said: “For the community of Ellington and surrounding villages, the project has ensured that the playing field remains a focal point of the community for years to come. We have successfully achieved our project objective, and in doing so; have created a more engaging area for all ages, for years to come. The grant from Mick George Ltd has subsidised a very significant proportion towards our total project costs.”

Plans are now being formulated to make further improvements, with the football, tennis and basketball courts being considered for future upgrades.

Stuart Costello, Marketing Director at Mick George Ltd, commented: “Having operated from Ellington for a considerable time, we have built some longstanding relations with the local community. We’re extremely grateful for their ongoing support, and are pleased to have been able to help with this initiative.”
