The Work and Study Programme Tutor will work with young people, parents, Careers Services, Youth Offending Services, Schools, and other agencies to:

• Promote regular attendance, deal with absenteeism, and support young people to achieve their qualifications
• Work as part of the team to deliver Functional Skills Training in Maths, English, ICT and
Employability Skills (and potentially to embed British Values) on a 1:1 teaching basis
• Complete all start paperwork and initial assessments to the required standard set out by our College partner and our Lead Body for qualifications, NOCN
• Maintain your own diary of appointments with learners each week
• Be engaged with young people and their problems
• Be prepared to work with supporting agencies to enable the progression of young people
• Recommend / refer young people to other New Meaning, PACE, Toolshed programmes
• Be able to keep accurate records
• Be able to analyse problems
• Keep up to date with relevant laws and attend any training provided by New Meaning, Toolshed, PACE Works
• Evidence the appreciation and the value of education
• Be able to build trusting relationships with pupils and their parents
• Always follow company policies
• Seek support from Managers if all points cannot be met
• Locate work placements for students as part of their course
• Complete all relevant Health and Safety/Risk Assessment paperwork as required
• Report all safeguarding issues to the Manager immediately.

The role is flexible in timings and you oversee your own diary, but events such as parents’ evenings or the occasional evening or weekend home visit might be required.

You may be asked to take on other responsibilities such as supporting teaching sessions or taking students to events or work experience etc. You may be asked also to take on other duties which could be different than your core role.

Preferred Skills
You will be an effective communicator, able to provide the highest standards of service to successfully engage learners. An excellent planner, you will be able to manage your time effectively as well as coping with any conflicting priorities. You will have the ability to coach, develop and mentor people with the ability to manage difficult situations calmly. Proven experience of working with young people would be an advantage.

Additional Notes

• You will need to be physically and mentally fit as you have responsibility and the safety of the students in your care
• For your employment to be sustained you will need to pass an enhanced DBS check
• Keep all personal data locked away and not to disclose any student information outside PACE / ToolShed unless the reason is for security or is life threating and you are advised to do so by the Lead Safeguarding Officer, Youth Offending Service or Police
• You will need to have Business Insurance on your vehicle.
